KR takes a ‘coffee break for cancer’

Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, 18 June 2013


As part of its ongoing CSR initiatives, the Khimji Ramdas Group participated in the Oman Cancer Association’s ‘Coffee break for cancer’, which was held recently. The event’s primary agenda was to raise cancer awareness in Oman, give KR employees an opportunity to be directly involved in the process and to raise funds for the OCA’s efforts in an informal and fun environment.


“We are indeed honoured and thankful to the Oman Cancer Association for inviting to be part of this month-long initiative. It is activities such as these that go a long way in ensuring that we combat cancer in an educated and informed manner,” said C Taneja, Director at Khimji Ramdas.


Hon. Yuthar Mohammed Al Rawahy, Founder & Chairperson of The Oman Cancer Association (OCA) said, “I would like to thank the KR Group for their consistent support of our efforts to spread awareness about cancer. We are happy to see the tremendous response that this event has drawn, which shows the level of interest people have in spreading our message.”

COMMITTED TO BUILDING THE CAPACITIES OF AL BATINAH’S YOUNG TALENT VALE’S PARTNERSHIP WITH OUTWARD BOUND OMAN SEES A NEW BATCH OF YOUTH COMPLETE A COURSE ON LEADERSHIP AND SELF-DISCOVERY

Muscat, June 16th 2013 – The sixth batch of Vale sponsored students from Al Batinah have completed a four-day experience-based outdoor program entitled ‘Discover Yourself’ with Outward Bound Oman. The tailor-made expedition aims to bridge the world of education and work by providing students with the necessary skill sets to enter the workforce fully prepared for a rewarding professional career

 

In 2011, Vale entered into a three-year partnership with Outward Bound Oman looking to enroll 216 students into the program that will unlock their potential and to date, 108 students from 12 schools in Liwa and Sohar have experienced the unique terrains of Jabal Al Akhdar. They were assigned a variety of tasks, exercises and responsibilities that enhanced their problem solving abilities, developed their communication capabilities and improved their planning and organizational talents; all key life skills sought out by employers throughout Oman. Conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education’s National Careers Guidance Center, the ‘Discover Yourself’ course also encouraged these students to consider the rewards of volunteerism and how each individual can help bring about change in their own capacity.

OCTAL EMPLOYEES DONATE BLOOD IN SUPPORT OF WORLD BLOOD DONOR DAY

Muscat, June 16th 2013 – As part of its ongoing commitment to engage staff in the company’s community centered programs and lead by example, OCTAL, the world’s largest producer of PET resin and sheet on a single site, recently held two on-site blood donation drives at the company headquarters. Run in partnership with the Blood Transfusion Services Team from the Sultan Qaboos Hospital and the Ministry of Health’s Salalah branch, OCTAL employees donated blood to mark World Blood Donor Day, held annually on June 14th to raise awareness of the growing need for clean blood supplies at hospitals and blood banks across the Sultanate.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi Welcomes Mechanic Extraordinaire Berto

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: Guests at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi have a brand new character to cheer them on their journey through the world’s only Ferrari-branded theme park. The Park’s popular local star Khalil the Camel was joined last Friday by Berto the Bear – the friendly ursine mechanic from Maranello.

Visitors watched the fun unfold at the Park as Berto pulled up in a Ferrari to be reunited with his giant box of tools – giving Khalil a big bear hug.

Bank Sohar organises Road Safety Seminar by Oman Road Safety Association for staff

Internal seminar organised in line with Bank Sohar’s ongoing safety campaign ‘Be Safe. Be Responsible’

Muscat | June 15, 2013: Leading by example, and in yet another initiative to promote road safety in the Sultanate, Bank Sohar organised a ‘Let’s Talk / Awareness’ session for Bank staff  recently. Held at the Bank’s MBD Branch, the event was organised in collaboration with the Oman Road Safety Association and focused on the importance of proper behaviour and driving habits while on the road in the Sultanate.

Highlighting the importance of proper road manners, Ms. Munira Abdulnabi Macki, DGM – Human Resources & Corporate Support, noted, “The need to improve road safety is a matter of vital importance to everyone in the Sultanate. We launched the ‘Be Safe. Be Responsible’ road safety campaign in response to this need and we consider our staff to be the best ambassadors in our road safety programme.”

WCAS Alumni Meet 2013 a huge success!

In order to help their current as well as former students nurture a bond and stay connected, Waljat College of Applied Sciences (WCAS) recently organized their 2nd Alumni Meet in the college premises. A great networking opportunity for students and faculty, the meet witnessed participation by former students in large numbers who recalled their fun-filled college days and their experiences in life since then.

Says Nasser Abdullah Al Mfraji, a student of the 2005 batch who works as an Examination Coordinator at the Sultan Qaboos University: “It was amazing to be back on campus again. The day was a beautiful journey down memory lane, and truly a fun experience. We were shown a specially made movie on WCAS, on the strides the college has made and the efforts that have gone into making it a centre of excellence. The whole program was great and well-organized”.

Tara Rajan, an engineering graduate, felt nostalgic: “My memories of WCAS are the most beautiful. I especially remember my teachers who were firm but friendly. They gave us knowledge, taught us how to make good use of opportunities, to be responsible and become achievers. Coming back to the campus makes me realize just how much I have missed being here”.

NBC hosts "Innovation for Better Sales" Workshop

National Business Centre (NBC), which falls under the umbrella of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE),organised recently "Innovation for Better Sales" Workshop in cooperation with Matrix Academy for Entrepreneurs.With the determination of underscoring the importance of innovation in helping business owners to meet challenges while boosting effectiveness, the workshop aimed at providing practical training for owners of small and medium enterprises which are incubated at the National Business Centre and The Knowledge Mine (TKM). The workshop also endeavoured to open wider prospects for innovation in the sales process and enhance income through more effective sales. Successful case studies in the field were also elaborated.

“Survive this summer-with Water, Rest & Care”

Powertech Engineering LLC in association with Royal Oman Police (Emergency) , ROP ( Traffic Safety) , Ministry of Health and Oman Women Association (Seeb), has announced the launch of an Summer & Road Safety Campaign. The theme of Summer Campaign is- “Survive this Summer With Water, Rest & Care” and theme for Road Safety Campaign is “Drive For your Family”.


The awareness campaign is set to take place from June 08th to June 15th, 2013, the campaign is designed to raise awareness and involve citizens and residents, to prepare themselves to protect against heat and road hazards


As part of the campaign special event will took place at Al Qurum National Park on 14th June along with blood donation camp and Muscat City Center on 15th June. Mr. Neelesh Sogani (Corporate HSE Manager- Powertech) and event organizer highlighted detail about the event. He explained that event at Al Qurum park will be on 14th June between 06:00 to 09:00 PM and will cover widely to spread awareness about heat and fatigue , it`s symptoms and protections measures. Ministry Of Health will carry out the health monitoring of the spectators and will advise on healthy practices. Event will also include blood donation camp. ROP (Emergency) will generate awareness on emergency response especially during domestic fire, heat related incidents and road traffic emergency. This will cover how to effectively rescue and respond to the emergency situation. Oman Women association will raise awareness on homemade remedies to cope up with summer specially emphasizing on healthy food and use of water. Campaign will also be supported by the school children’s. As a part of campaign- Blood donation camp is also organized and huge crowd is expected to be part of the camp.

Khimji Ramdas Hands over IAAF Certificate to the Ministry of Sports Affairs

•    SQSC 8-lane running track awarded IAAF Class II Athletics Facility Certification

The Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex (SQSC) running track is now officially certified by the International Associations of Athletics Federations (IAAF) as Class II Athletics Facility. This marks the first time that a running track in Oman has the IAAF’s endorsement, which makes Oman eligible to host GCC and Asian Athletic competitions.


The certificate was handed over to MoSA during the track inauguration event; H.E. Rashad Ahmed Mohammed Al Hinai, Under Secretary of MoSA received the certification from Anil Khimji & Nilesh Khimji from Khimji Ramdas. The event was attended by Mohammed Al Manwari, Director General of Projects at MoSA, Eng. Saeed Masoud Al Shukaili, Director of Projects at MoSA, Mohammed Ahmed Al Amri, Director at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex and other dignitaries.


The entire project is conceived and executed by Khimji Ramdas, Special Projects Division (SPD) with assistance from BSW, Germany for the Ministry of Sports Affairs (MoSA).
