Muscat Eye Laser Center marks 10 years with the launch of two new presbyopia treatments and is awarded a Certificate of Excellence from Schwind company

23 June 2012, Muscat: Muscat Eye Laser Center is celebrating a decade of excellence as Oman’s top-rated eye-care services provider with the induction of the latest technology to treat presbyopia – a condition that limits the ability to focus on near objects as age progresses.

The PresbyMAX with Schwind Amaris 750, billed as the world’s fastest and most precise excimer laser, is the pride of Muscat Eye Laser Center’s ever-expanding high-tech facilities. Together with the Femto Laser Intracorneal inlays (KAMRA) solution, the two new acquisitions are set to keep the clinic on the cutting edge of private eye-care surgical services in the region.

This ramp-up in Muscat Eye Laser Center’s capabilities will come as good news for the large number of people afflicted by presbyopia. As we age, our ability to focus on near objects declines as the lenses inside our eyes gradually lose their flexibility. Consequently, presbyopic patients will find it difficult to read small print – a deficiency currently addressed through the prescription of reading, bifocal or mulifocal lenses.

The insertion of multifocal lenses during cataract surgery or excimer laser monovision procedures has also been a popular option.

However, with the introduction of PresbyMAX, Muscat Eye Laser Center is bringing to Oman an eye-care solution hailed by experts around the world as considerably faster, more precise, safer than ever with a superior degree of comfort to boot.

PresbyMAX with the Schwind Amaris 750S excimer laser is a sophisticated software solution for presbyopia treatment. With PresbyMAX, it is possible for the first time to treat emmetropic as well as myopic, hyperopic and astigmatic patients whose accommodative response is limited. As PresbyMAX optimally enlarges the depth of focus and minimises contrast losses, patients obtain satisfactory vision for a wide distance range.

Laser treatment of additionally existing myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism can be efficiently combined with presbyopia corrections in only one step. Moreover, Aberration-Free, Corneal or Ocular Wavefront based treatments, in any treatment modality can be performed. In fact, PresbyMAX is the only presbyopia software offering such a broad treatment spectrum for different indications.

Complementing the clinic’s capabilities in the treatment of presbyopia is the new KAMRA inlay procedure as an alternative. The KAMRA inlay insert has an opening in the centre. The device features 8,400 high precision, laser etched micro-openings along the surface to keep the cornea healthy. The KAMRA inlay, implanted in the cornea in a pocket or under a flap created by Femto Laser, improves the depth of focus of the eye thus allowing a clearer image of objects that would normally be out of focus. The inlay has the ability to restore near and intermediate vision but allows the patient to retain distance vision. This procedure can also be combined with a LASIK correction treatment and can be conducted even after cataract and LASIK surgeries.

“As a clinic that is committed to providing our patients with high-end eye-care solutions and services, we settle for only the best that technology has to offer. PresbyMAX with Schwind Amaris 750S unites all the achievements of modern laser technology in one piece of equipment. Moreover, guiding innovations, like tissue ablation at two different energy levels and six-dimensional tracking, which not available in any other piece of equipment, have been incorporated into this technological marvel. Together with the KAMRA inlay procedure, we are now in a position to offer an unsurpassed standard of presbyopic treatment solutions in Oman,” said Dr. Maria Clara Arbelaez, Medical Director, Muscat Eye Laser Center.

Indeed, the unrivalled technological superiority of Schwind products has been a key factor in Muscat Eye Laser Center’s continuing success in delivering advanced eye-care solutions to patients here in Oman over the past decade. This ‘win-win’ partnership was recognised by no less than the President and CEO of Schwind Amaris, Mr. Rolf Schwind, who presented a Certificate of Excellence to Muscat Eye Laser Center that was accepted by Mr. Sameer Al Awam and Dr Maria Arbelaez. The certificate paid tribute to the “honesty, hard work and innovation” that has characterised the “friendship and excellent cooperation” between their respective organisations.
