Omran awards infrastructure works package for Oman Convention and Exhibition Center

Muscat, April 9th 2013 – Omran has awarded the infrastructure works for various developments at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center (OCEC) to Khalid Bin Ahmed & Sons (KAS) - Al Habib Joint Venture. The agreement was signed at a special ceremony at the project site between H.E. Nasser Al Jashmi, Omran Chairman, and Ali Malalah Habib Al Lawati, Al-Habib Chairman. Also in attendance were Eng. Wael Al Lawati, Omran CEO, N. Surendrakumar, KAS Managing Director, Said Al Qasmi, Chief Project Officer at OCEC and Vijayakumar B., Al Habib General Manager.

 

“OCEC has been making steady progress for its debut in 2016 and Omran has been working systematically to ensure tendering is carried out according to plan, on budget and with particular attention to detail. We have also ensured that Omani companies are given preference in line with Omran’s Local Development Policy,” commented H.E. Al Jashmi. “In addition to local contractors such as KAS, we also require our contractors to procure all locally available materials and equipment from within Oman and process goods and services from Omani suppliers when possible. This will further support the local supply chain and ensure maximum benefit to the economy.”

 

Ali Malalah said, “As a joint venture of local Omani companies, KAS-Al Habib JV is proud to be associated with this national and prestigious project to deliver the road and utilities infrastructure for the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center project.”

THE SULTANATE OF OMAN PARTICIPATES IN THE INTERNATIONAL DONOR CONFERENCE FOR DARFUR IN DOHA

Muscat, April 7th 2013 – HE Dr. Salem ben Nasser Al Ismaily, Chairman of the Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development (PAIPED) led the Sultanate’s delegation to the International Donor Conference for the Reconstruction and Development of Darfur, held in the Qatari capital of Doha. Participants from across the Middle East and North Africa pledged their financial support towards ongoing rebuilding projects in Darfur, while implementing the 2011 Darfur Peace Agreement to establish a framework for long term peace and development in the region.

 

The meeting brought together representatives from the Government of Sudan, the international donor community, the development banking sector, national and international Non-Governmental Organisations as well as international charitable foundations. The Omani delegation included Chancellor Dr. Said bin Mohammed Al Barami, President, Management of the Arab League at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ali bin Ibrahim Al Raisi, Chief Executive of the Oman Charitable Organisation.

 

Speaking at the conference, HE Dr. Al Ismaily stated: “The outcomes achieved this week are important steps towards ensuring the full recovery and rebuilding of Darfur and achieving the development priorities in the Darfur 2013-2019 plan. The donor countries are also providing support to the communities and population in the area. There remains a need for continued coordination between the international institutions, to address the economic difficulties as well as social problems of poverty, unemployment, illiteracy and disease to ensure peace and stability.”

Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, 7 April 2013 – As part of its commitment to encouraging young female to pursue careers in technology, Microsoft Oman hosted the DigiGirlz Day, in collaboration with the Omani Ministry of Education.This year sessions took place at the Salalah College of Applied Sciences on (17 March 2013) and The Directorate General of Education in Al Buraimi (18 March 2013), and were attended by over 350female students representing schools from across the regions.

VICE PRESIDENT OF BRAZIL TOURS VALE’S INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX IN LIWA

Liwa, April 2nd 2013 – His Excellency, Michel Temer, Vice President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, toured Vale’s Industrial Complex in Liwa yesterday during his official visit to the Sultanate of Oman. His Excellency was joined by H.E. Dr. Fuad bin Ja’afar Al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries along with a delegation of senior businessmen and economists from Brazil. H.E. the Vice President was also met by H.E. Sheikh Said bin Humaid Al Harthy, Wali of Liwa and H.E. Sheikh Hilal bin Ali Al Habsi, Wali of Sohar.

 

The Industrial Complex in Oman features some of the most advanced green technologies deployed by the global mining company which today produces 9 million metric tons of clean iron ore pellets per year that is then distributed to the biggest consumer market, Asia.

Sultanate of Oman Participates in the 2nd GCC eGovernment Committee Ministerial Meeting

With the Sultanate’s participation, the second GCC eGovernment Ministerial Meeting was held yesterday 31st March, 2013 in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Sultanate delegation was represented by Dr. Salim Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, CEO of Information Technology Authority, and a number of officials and specialists in eGovernment field from ITA.

 

The Committee discussed a range of topics pertaining developing eGovernment services and aspects of joint cooperation between GCC member countries, most importantly the GCC Guidelines Strategy in eGovernment, which was one of the main items that came out of the Committee’s first meeting at the headquarters of the GCC Secretariat General in Saudi Arabia in mid-March, 2012. The strategy, which is designed to assist in the creation of common guidelines to enhance the development of eGovernment within the GCC countries, has been approved by the Ministerial Committee.

Oman Investment Fund announces new Board appointees at Oman National Investment Corporation Holding

Muscat, 31st March 2013:

 

Oman Investment Fund (‘OIF’) a sovereign wealth fund of the Sultanate of Oman, has today announced the appointment of, among other new members, two insurance industry experts to the board of Oman National Investment Corporation Holding SAOG (‘ONIC Holding’ Ticker: ONIC). OIF acquired a 41.13% holding, in ONIC Holding in February 2013.

 

Andrea Moneta and Lakhdar Moussi join the ONIC Holding Board following their election at ONIC Holding’s AGM held on 30th March in Muscat. Mr Moneta and Mr Moussi bring decades of international insurance sector experience and expertise to ONIC having worked for and advised some of the most prominent names in the industry.
